Delaware St. tops Kent

KENT -- Jahsha Bluntt scored 15 points and Joe Dickens added 13 to lead Delaware State to a 65-56 victory over Kent State in the South Padre Island Invitational on Monday night.
Jay Youngblood scored 20 points for the Golden Flashes, who had won six straight season openers and 17 consecutive home openers. Nate Gerwig finished with 16 points.
The Hornets' bench outscored their counterparts 33-0.
Bluntt made a 3-pointer with 16:13 left to spark a 9-2 run that gave the Hornets (1-1) a 43-36 lead. Troy Roundtree finished off the spurt with a layup.
Dickens had four straight points in an 8-0 run that made it 51-40 Delaware State with 2:19 left.
The Hornets went 23-for-28 from the free-throw line, compared with 11-for-17 for the Golden Flashes.
Bluntt also had seven rebounds for Delaware State, which outrebounded Kent State 30-21.
The invitational is being played with experimental rules, including a a distance of 20 feet, nine inches for 3-pointers, one foot deeper than normal.

INDIANA, Pa. -- Indiana forced 40 turnovers in a season-opening win over Thiel at the Memorial Field House.
Sophomore forward Joe Herrmann led the Tomcats (0-3) with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Senior forward Damien Williams added 10 points.
Eddie Peterson had a game-high 23 points for the Indians (1-0) while Lawrence Baker added a career-high 20 points. Thirteen of the Indians' 14 players scored.
Cent. Michigan 67,Wis-Green Bay 62
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Sefton Barrett scored 23 points, including 18 in the second half, to lead Central Michigan over Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Barrett blocked a three-point attempt by Green Bay's Ryan Evanochko with 1.5 seconds remaining and then sank a pair of free throws to seal the victory.
Central Michigan (1-1) led by as many as 11 points in the first half thanks to an 18-4 run in which Eddie Spencer and Giordan Watson each hit a pair of 3-pointers.
The Phoenix (1-3), who play in the Horizon League, cut the lead to three points on a free throw by Evanochko with 4:19 and then cut it to just one point on another Evanochko free throw with 17 seconds left. But Barrett scored four points in the final 23 seconds to help Central Michigan to the win.
Evanochko led the Phoenix with 17 points and five assists while Ryan Tillema scored 14. Terry Evans had five points and 12 rebounds.
Barrett finished with six rebounds and two assists for Central, while Spencer had 11 points and six rebounds and Watson finished with 16 points and seven assists.
