DURHAM, N.C. -- Beau Tanner kicked a 37-yard field goal as time expired, giving North Alabama the 24-21 victory over North Carolina Central on Saturday in an NCAA Division II second-round playoff game.
Tanner was the first-string placekicker at the start of the year, but he missed a 19-yard try in the season-opener against Tusculum. Yuta Fukuda took his place and held the job through the rest of the year.
But Fukuda missed a pair of tries against the Lions (10-2), a 43-yard try that hit the right upright in the third quarter, and a 41-yard try that was short in the fourth quarter.
N.C. Central (10-2) broke a 14-14 tie on Adrian Warren's 4-yard scoring pass to Torey Ross with 5:24 left in the third quarter. Warren also threw a 9-yard scoring pass to Charles Futrell early in the second quarter.
DeMarcus Blount tied the game with a 23-yard touchdown run with 8:27 left to play. He ran for 137 yards on 19 carries.
Grand Valley State 17,North Dakota 3
ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Cullen Finnerty threw for two touchdowns and Scott Greene kicked a career-long 50-yard field goal for Grand Valley State.
Grand Valley (10-0) advances to next weekend's national quarterfinal round against Great Lakes conference rival Saginaw Valley State, which defeated Nebraska Omaha 24-21 in the other Northwest Regional semifinal game.
Grand Valley avenged a 19-15 loss to North Dakota at the NCAA quarterfinal last year to end the season for the 16th-ranked Fighting Sioux at 10-3.
Saginaw Valley State 24, University of Nebraska at Omaha 21
OMAHA, Neb. -- Logan Barnhart rushed for 108 yards and helped Saginaw Valley State rally.
Barnhart scored on a 3-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter to give the Cardinals (11-1) the 24-21 lead.
Saginaw Valley State (11-1) advances to face Grand Valley State (10-0) in a regional final.
The Mavericks (8-3) took a 14-3 lead in the second quarter before Saginaw Valley State rallied behind quarterback Chris Dougherty, who was 20-of-25 for 273 yards.
He connected with Rick Cottengim for a 67-yard touchdown and then scored on a 6-yard run to take a 17-14 lead.
The Mavericks had chances to extend their early lead, but Saginaw Valley State linebacker John DiGiorgio intercepted two passes in the first half. The first was at the Cardinals' 1-yard line, the other was in the end zone.
Pittsburg State 41, West Texas A & amp;M 3
CANYON, Texas -- Andy Majors rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns and threw for a score as Pittsburg State beat West Texas A & amp;M.
Justin Bean also rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown for Pittsburg State (10-3), which will play Northwest Missouri in the regional final Nov. 26.
West Texas A & amp;M (10-2), which entered the game averaging almost 44 points, committed six turnovers and was held to just 222 yards. It was the fewest points and yards of the season for the Buffaloes, who were making their first Division II playoff appearance.
Dalton Bell was 21-of-34 for 179 yards and threw three interceptions for West Texas A & amp;M.
Majors rushed for two touchdowns and threw a 4-yard touchdown to Brian Barta.
Pittsburg State had 479 yards of total offense and held West Texas A & amp;M's time of possession under 17 minutes.
Northwest Missouri State 42, Washburn 32
TOPEKA, Kan. -- Josh Lamberson passed for 311 yards and four touchdowns as Northwest Missouri State beat Washburn.
Lamberson threw a 39-yard TD pass to Andre Rector to open the scoring. Northwest Missouri (9-3) made it 21-0 after the first quarter on a 2-yard run by Xavier Omon and Lamberson's 8-yard TD pass to Jared Meyerkorth.
Washburn (9-3) came back on a 45-yard TD pass from Jordan Brill to Aaron Gardiner and Trent Hearn's 1-yard scoring run but trailed 35-17 at halftime.
Omon rushed for 166 yards and two TDs for the Bearcats.
Brill was 16 of 29 for 296 yards and three TDs for the Ichabods and Mike Odupitan had five catches for 118 yards and two scores.
Northwest Missouri is at Pittsburg State in the Southwest Region finals Nov. 26.
East Stroudsburg 52, Bloomsburg 39
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Jimmy Terwilliger threw four touchdown passes and ran for another score as East Stroudsburg upset Bloomsburg.
East Stroudsburg (10-2) avenged an overtime loss to the Huskies at home in the regular season despite trailing 32-28 at the start of the fourth quarter.
Central Arkansas 52, Presbyterian 28
CLINTON,S.C. -- Nathan Brown completed 23 of 32 passes for 495 yards to lead Central Arkansas over Presbyterian.
The Bears' (11-2) took a 21-14 lead after the first quarter behind three touchdown passes from Brown. Central Arkansas widened their lead over the Blue Hose (10-2) in the second quarter, scoring two touchdowns to put them up 35-14 going into the half.
C.W. Post 28, Shepherd 21
SHEPERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Rob Blount connected with Ryan Heller on two touchdown passes .
The second of the touchdowns, a 58-yard pass with 4:55 left in the third quarter, were the only points scored in the second half for either team.
The loss brought to an end an 18-game winning streak for Shepherd (11-1).
C.W. Post (10-2) dominated the second half, controlling the ball for 21:13 minutes to Shepherd's 8:47.
