NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster (1-1) lost the championship game of the 14th Annual Buzz Ridl Classic. B-W (2-0) broke the school record for points in a game (old mark 131). Westminster posted its only lead at 7-6 about two minutes into the contest. From there, the Yellow Jackets took command and led by as many as 22 points (56-34 with 4:07 to play) in the opening half before taking a 15-point advantage (65-50) at halftime. B-W held a double-digit lead throughout the entire second half, as the Titans could get no closer than 13 points (the last at 69-56 with 18:33 to play). Seven Baldwin-Wallace players scored in double figures, led by Tori Davis with team-high totals of 22 points and 15 rebounds. For Westminster, senior guard Mark DeMonaco (New Castle High) tallied a game-high 26 points and dished out a team-best six assists. Other double-digit Titan scorers included sophomore guard Craig Hannon (New Castle/Union) with 17, senior guard Brian Fadden (New Castle/Mohawk) with 15, sophomore guard Chauncey Whitlow (Youngstown/Wilson) with 14, freshman center Steve Bielich with 13, and sophomore forward Nick Adams with 10. DeMonaco and Fadden were among the players selected for the All-Tournament team.
Carnegie Mellon 80, Grove City 64
PITTSBURGH -- Grove Cityfell to 0-2 in the second night of the 2005 West Penn Classic at Skibo Gymnasium. CMU (2-0) closed the first half with an 11-3 run and led 38-30 at the break. The Tartans then pulled away in the second half. Three Grove City players scored in double figures. Sophomore guard Ryan Gerber led the Wolverines with 12 points, including 3-for-3 accuracy on three-point shots. Senior guard Matt Phillips fired in 11 points while freshman guard Ryan Gibson added 10. Gibson also had six assists. Clayton Barlow-Wilcox, the Classic's MVP, led Carnegie Mellon with 18 points and 17 rebounds. CMU out-rebounded Grove City, 49-36. The Wolverines shot 7 of 13 (54 percent) beyond the arc. Grove City returns to action Tuesday night at Penn State Altoona.

GRANTHAM, Pa. -- Grove City improved to 1-1 with a 69-63 win over Alvernia in the consolation game of the Messiah Invitational. Sophomore forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool/Beaver Local) poured in 24 points on 12 of 13 shooting for the Wolverines while junior guard Elyse Bogusz fired in 17 points and had four assists. Bogusz earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
