AROUND THE NHL Sunday's other games

Canucks 3, Mighty Ducks 2
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Sami Salo scored his second goal of the game with 7:48 left to help the Vancouver Canucks hand the Anaheim Mighty Ducks' their record-tying eighth straight loss. Salo blasted a 50-foot slap shot from the point that deflected past goalie Ilja Bryzgalov, and the Canucks held on to finish a three-game trip with a 2-1 record. Rob Niedermayer's power-play goal 47 seconds into the third period tied the game for Anaheim, which also lost eight games in a row in October 1996. Vancouver's Trevor Linden scored on a penalty shot with a second left in the second period. Linden, hooked by defenseman Keith Carney on a breakaway, beat Bryzgalov with a backhand shot. Salo opened the scoring on a power play with 4:55 left in the first period, and Andy McDonald tied it on a power play midway through the second.
Rangers 3, Bruins 2
NEW YORK -- Jaromir Jagr snapped a third-period tie with his 19th goal, and the Rangers sent Boston to its sixth straight loss. It is the first time the Bruins (7-10-5) have dropped six in a row since Feb. 11-23, 1997. Boston has led or been tied in the third period in five of the losses. Jagr, who also assisted on goals by Petr Prucha and Ville Nieminen, snapped in a shot from the right circle at 6:16. Jagr's 556th career goal moved him into a tie with John Bucyk for 18th place on the NHL list. The Czech star has 35 points in 23 games. Henrik Lundqvist made 32 saves for the victory. Glen Murray and Patrice Bergeron scored for Boston.
Lightning 5, Hurricanes 2
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Fredrik Modin had a goal and two assists, and Vincent Lecavalier and Brad Richards each added a goal and an assist for Tampa Bay. Ruslan Fedotenko also scored, and Vaclav Prospal had an assist to push his points streak to 13 games. The defending Stanley Cup champion Lightning have won three of their last four. Justin Williams scored twice for Carolina, the second on a penalty shot. The Hurricanes played without several key players who are sidelined with injuries, including captain Rod Brind'Amour, who missed his third straight game with a groin injury. With its second victory of the season over Carolina, defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay moved within six points of the first-place Hurricanes in the Southeast Division.
