YOUNGSTOWN -- The U.S. Department of Justice has informed the Family Service Agency of Youngstown that it has been approved to provide budget and credit counseling to area residents who wish to apply for bankruptcy protection under the new federal bankruptcy laws.
The agency is working with area attorneys to serve their clients who are required by the law to receive credit counseling as part of their eligibility to file.
Family Service Agency's Family Financial Education counselors will work with these consumers according to the guidelines provided by the Justice Department.
Counseling sessions can be scheduled by calling (330) 782-5664.
"At this time, Family Service Agency is the only organization in Youngstown approved to provide this service," explained David E. Arnold, CEO.
"We are confident that through the efforts of our credit counselors, we will aid in the smooth process of assisting attorneys and their clients in this important life issue," he said.
FSA has served the Mahoning Valley for almost 100 years.
In addition to Family Financial Education services, its current programs include family counseling, rape information and counseling, guardianship services for the elderly, Daybreak Youth Crisis Shelter, the Ryan White Program for those living with HIV/AIDS, and the Learning Tree After-School Program for middle-school pupils.
