Liberty teachers receive grants

LIBERTY -- The Liberty Educational Endowment Fund has awarded seven grants totaling $5,410 to Liberty schoolteachers for this school year.
The fund, a nonprofit educational support group not affiliated with the Liberty school district, has provided more than $122,000 in requests from Liberty teachers since it was founded in 1979, said Patricia Lettera, president and grant chairwoman.
Its goal is to improve the quality of education for Liberty pupils by providing money for educational achievement activities and materials not normally provided by the school district.
The 2005-06 endowment campaign, which is conducted through the mail, has begun with letters being sent to Liberty Township businesses and residents asking for donations.
Some of the grants awarded this year include an electronic interactive learning system to build literacy and math skills at the kindergarten level, clay and other items for a cooperative learning program for middle school science and art, Internet dissection software for middle school science and 22 computer tools for high school art classes.
Donations can be made in honor of a special teacher, friend or family member or in memory of a loved one. They should be sent to: Liberty Educational Endowment Inc., P.O. Box 8114, Youngstown 44505-8114.
