Allegheny 73, Grove City 64
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Visiting Allegheny topped Grove City on the first night of the West Penn Classic at the Grove City College Arena. Five Gators scored in double figures, led by Matt Majzlik's 20. An 8-2 Allegheny run midway through the second half gave the Gators a 59-52 lead with 6:42 left. Grove City (0-1) could get no closer than five down the stretch. Senior guard Matt Phillips led Grove City with 15 points while sophomore guards Shawn Carr (Mohawk) and Ryan Gerber each added nine points. Allegheny out-rebounded the Wolverines, 32-31. Casey McCloskey added 13 for Allegheny while Larry Sharp and Ryan Hollihan each chipped in 11. Ben Torsney tossed in 10 for the Gators. Grove City will visit Carnegie Mellon tonight in the second night of action in the West Penn Classic. Allegheny will play Washington and Jefferson at 6 p.m. Carnegie Mellon defeated Washington and Jefferson, 96-68.
Westminster 129, Delaware Valley 125
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Titans overcame a 13-point deficit in the opening round of the 2005 Buzz Ridl Classic.
The Titans (1-0) will face Baldwin-Wallace (1-0) in the tournament championship today at 8 p.m. B-W was an 88-79 winner over St. John Fisher. Senior guard Mark DeMonaco (New Castle) drained a three-pointer with 13:22 to play in the first half to become the 32nd Titan to reach 1,000 career points. DeMonaco finished with a game-high 28 points and has 1,020 points. Trailing 123-122 with a minute to play, the Titans won the game at the free-throw line by making all six final attempts,. Senior guard Brian Fadden (New Castle/Mohawk High) put the Titans ahead for good with 43 seconds left. Sophomores Craig Hannon (New Castle/Union ) and Brian Urso (Pittsburgh) set new career-highs with 27 and 26 points, respectively. Sophomore Chauncey Whitlow (Youngstown/Wilson) snared a team-high nine rebounds.
Capital 92, Thiel 79
COLUMBUS -- Sophomore guard Ross Watson (Pittsburgh) and senior forward Damien Williams (East Pittsburgh) scored 14 apiece, but Thiel lost in the second game of the Capital Classic. Thiel will meet Kenyon College (0-1) in the consolation game today at 4 p.m.

Penn State Behrend 68, Westminster 57
ERIE -- Junior forward Talley Felger (Petersburg/Springfield) posted a team- and career-high 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Titans, who play Mount Union in today's consolation game of the Penn State-Behrend Tipoff Tournament. Mount Union dropped a 67-50 decision to Case Western Reserve. Four Penn State-Behrend players scored in double figures in the win, led by Jessica Serafin and Rachel Slomski with 16 points apiece. Junior guard Nicole Fee (New Castle/Neshannock) dished out four assists for Westminster.
Thiel 82, John Carroll 77 (OT)
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Freshman guard Amber Bodrick (Boardman/Mooney) went for a double-double in her first collegiate contest, finishing with 18 points and a team-best 14 rebounds in the National City Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Allegheny College. Thiel plays Allegheny College (0-1) today in the consolation game of the National City Tip-Off Tournament.
