People dubs McConaugheyas 'sexiest man alive'
NEW YORK -- Matthew McConaughey has been named the "sexiest man alive" by People magazine.
The actor is pictured on the cover of People's annual issue, on newsstands today. For the 36-year-old McConaughey, it's a clear sign that his career is in the midst of an upturn -- and that his girlfriend, Penelope Cruz, may be rubbing off on him.
"Now I've made it," he told the magazine. "Wait until you see the roles I could take after this. You're going to see my gut hanging over, plus 22 [pounds]. It'll be a whole new kind of sexy!"
McConaughey is the 20th "sexiest man" for People, who first bequeathed the honor to Mel Gibson in 1985. The magazine credited McConaughey's "heaping helping of Texas's finest Southern charm" for the choice.
But he says the part of the title that he's proud of isn't "sexiest": "I like the 'alive' part."

LOS ANGELES -- When Dennis Quaid landed in Hollywood 30 years ago, he took a stroll by the stars on the Walk of Fame. On Wednesday, the actor got a star of his own.
Quaid joked about how long he's been on the scene.
"I remember when this town was a beanfield," he said. "I've been here 125 years. I started with Charlie Chaplin."
Quaid, 51, has appeared in more than 40 movies and stars in the upcoming remake of the 1968 film "Yours, Mine and Ours" due out later this month.
With new comedy on FX,DeVito heads back to TV
NEW YORK -- Danny DeVito -- who hasn't starred in a TV series since "Taxi" ended its run in 1983 -- will return to the small screen next year in the FX comedy "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."
DeVito will play a retiree who has moved back to Philadelphia to spend time with his children.
The series' second season is set to debut in June. DeVito, 61, will co-star in all 10 episodes. He will be able to shoot his scenes within a period of 10 to 15 days, the network said.
"Taxi" began its run in 1978. DeVito played Louie De Palma, a New York City dispatcher who bullied and insulted his drivers.
After the series ended, he turned to producing ("Get Shorty," "Man on the Moon") and directing ("Throw Momma From the Train," "The War of the Roses," "Hoffa").
McMillan: I'm moving on
MIAMI -- Terry McMillan says she's trying to get her groove back.
"I'm not going to end up on the rocking chair by myself," said McMillan, who filed for divorce from Jonathan Plummer in January.
McMillan has said that she decided to end her 61/2 years of marriage to Plummer, 30, after learning that he is gay. The revelation led her to conclude that Plummer, whom she met at a Jamaican resort a decade ago, married her only to get U.S. citizenship, McMillan has said.
Plummer inspired her to write "How Stella Got Her Groove Back," the 1996 novel that chronicled the romantic adventures of a 40-something woman who falls for a guy half her age.
