YOUNGSTOWN -- The search for a new dean for Youngstown State University's College of Arts and Sciences has been narrowed to four candidates, and two of them are already employed by the university.
The Dean Search Committee will put the r & eacute;sum & eacute;s, application letters and other documents related to the candidates on the university's Web site this week.
YSU faculty, staff and students can read that information and make suggestions and comments to the search committee, said Paul Kobulnicky, committee chairman and executive director of Maag Library.
The four candidates are:
UDr. Nathan Ritchey, YSU professor of mathematics and chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
UDr. Gary Salvner, YSU professor of English and chair of the English Department.
UDr. Ronald Davis, professor of history and vice provost for international affairs and academic affairs budget officer at Western Michigan University.
UDr. Marietta Morrissey, professor of sociology and associate dean of Arts and Sciences at the University of Toledo.
The four were chosen from a field of 45 applicants for the post vacated by Dr. Robert Bolla, who resigned in June to take a position at Bradley University in Illinois, Kobulnicky said.
Interviews scheduled
They have been scheduled for on-campus interviews over the next several weeks.
Ritchey's interview will take place Nov. 21-22; Salvner's will be Nov. 30-Dec. 1; Davis' will be Dec. 5-6 and Morrissey's will be Dec. 7-8.
The College of Arts and Sciences, traditionally one of the largest of YSU's colleges, has an enrollment of 2,916 students this fall.
Dr. Ikram Khawaja, retired professor of geological and environmental sciences, has been serving as interim dean of the college since Bolla's departure, and has agreed to stay on until a replacement is named, Kobulnicky said.
The search has only been active since mid-September when advertising for the position began. Once the interview and comment period is over, the search committee will present its assessments to Dr. Robert K. Herbert, YSU Provost, who will make the final selection, Kobulnicky said.
