BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Senior Emily Cicero closed out her career Saturday by finishing 81st at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional with a time of 23 minutes, 7.4 seconds.
Cicero was named first-team all-Horizon League twice and earned second-team honors twice, including this year. She was also named the league's Newcomer of the Year in 2001.
Volleyball
CHICAGO -- Senior Abby Ettenhofer had a career-high 25 kills with a .419 hitting percentage, and senior Katie Shea added 18 kills and eight blocks, but the Penguins dropped a five-game Horizon League match to UIC (12-18, 8-6) Saturday.
Senior Angie Pasquinelli added 55 assists and junior Amanda Cindric led the Penguins (7-21, 0-14) with 15 digs.

*GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel senior quarterback Darrell Satterfield was named Presidents' Athletic Conference offensive player of the week.
In Thiel's 50-48 triple-overtime victory at Carnegie Mellon, Satterfield completed 29-of-52 passes for 306 yards and six touchdowns (9, 11, 7, 18, 10, 21), setting a school record for completions and tying the marks for attempts and TDs.
Thiel (10-0) plays host to Johns Hopkins (8-2) Saturday at Alumni Stadium at noon in a Division III playoff game.
*ALLIANCE -- Mount Union (9-1) will play host to Mount St. Joseph's (9-1) in a Division III playoff game Saturday at noon.
Mount Union qualified for the 14th consecutive season.
*BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Geneva (8-3) will visit Georgetown (Ky.) Saturday in the first round of the NAIA playoffs. The game will begin at 1:30 p.m.
*BALTIMORE -- Grove City's men's soccer team was runner-up in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southern Championship Tournament, losing 3-0 to Johns Hopkins.
Grove City finished the season with a 13-6-5 record.
Junior hockey
The Jr. Phantoms Pee Wee hockey club (1-1-1) opened regular season play.
The Phantoms out shot the Columbus Captials (Team 310) 21-15, but lost, 3-1. Lucas Clarke had a power play goal assisted by Mike Gorgacz and Jared Taylor.
Against Columbus Capitals (Team 328), the Phantoms won, 5-0. Corey Barnhouse led the charge with two goals, while Ryan Demeyen, Taylor, and Gorgacz also scored. Nick Malvasi, Crawford Warwick, Zach Jones and Gorgacz added assists, and Riley Emery had 10 saves in goal.
Against Parma, the Phantoms rallied in the third period as Zach Jones scored with 4:40 to go forge a 4-4 tie.
Demeyen scored twice and Malvasi added a goal. Clarke assisted on two goals and Emery had one.

Buckeyes beatAshland, 100-67
COLUMBUS -- Ron Lewis scored 18 points off the bench to lead Ohio State to a 100-67 win over Ashland in an exhibition game Sunday.
Terence Dials had 12 points and J.J. Sullinger added nine points and 11 rebounds for the Buckeyes, who won both their exhibition games against Division II opponents.
Ohio State opens the season next Sunday at home against Chicago State.
The Buckeyes' offense excelled on the perimeter and inside against Ashland, connecting on 10 of 24 from 3-point range and outscoring the Eagles 46-24 in the paint. Ohio State shot 55 percent from the field to 36 percent by Ashland.
Vahn Knight led the Eagles with 15 points. Greg Emmons scored 13 and Justin Brown added 11 points and nine rebounds.
Ivan Harris scored 10 points for the Buckeyes. Jamar Butler, suspended for the season opener for violating an NCAA rule by playing in a charity tournament in the offseason, had nine points and eight assists.
Matt Terwilliger, who was suspended for one game along with Butler, had eight points and five rebounds.

Yankees, Matsui'sagent keep up talks
NEW YORK -- Hideki Matsui's agent and the New York Yankees kept up contract talks over the weekend as they aimed to reach agreement on a new contract by their Tuesday deadline.
Arn Tellem spoke by telephone Sunday with Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, and Tellem met with Matsui on Sunday. The sides have been talking about a four-year contract in the $50 million range.
Chad Hedrick breaksrecord in 5,000
CALGARY, Alberta -- American Chad Hedrick shattered the world record in the 5,000 meters Sunday, finishing in 6 minutes, 9.68 seconds in the first long track speedskating World Cup event of the season. Hedrick, from Spring, Texas, broke the mark of 6:14.66 set by Jochem Uytdehaage of the Netherlands in the 2002 Olympics.
In the women's 2,400-meter pursuit, Germany won in a world-record 2:56.04. Canada set the previous mark of 3:03.07 last season.
