Giles anniversary is celebrated with rededication
XYOUNGSTOWN -- The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Giles, 5450 Lemoyne Ave., was observed during a rededication service Oct. 15 at Brownlee Woods Presbyterian Church, where they are members.
A reception was held afterward at the church, then the couple were honored later that day at a dinner party held for relatives at the Holiday Inn in Boardman.
Hosts for the festivities were the couple's children, Richard and James C. Giles of Youngstown and Martha A. Giles of San Antonio, Texas, and the church deacons. There are five grandchildren in the family.
The former Ida Brackenridge and Mr. Giles were married Oct. 21, 1955, at South United Presbyterian Church, now John Knox United Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Giles is a payroll secretary with Youngstown Board of Education. She was a member of the Heather Highlanders Pipe Band and Aut Mori Grotto Caldron Drill Team until the groups disbanded.
Mr. Giles, a Purple Heart recipient, served with the U.S. Army in Korea from 1951 to 1953. He retired in 1990 from Republic Steel Corp., where he was a rigger. He is a member of Aut Mori Grotto Clown Unit.
