Veteran Outreach Day
SHARON, Pa. -- The Mercer County CareerLink Veterans Services Unit and Mercer County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 55 will offer the 18th annual Veteran Outreach Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Sharon American Legion Post 299, 1395 E. State St., Sharon.
National Veterans Service Office personnel will be on hand to help veterans apply for benefits and military-related services. UPMC Horizon Health System will provide free health screens and general wellness information. Free blood-sugar tests will be given until noon. Veterans must have fasted for at least three hours to receive the sugar test.
Flu shots will be available at no cost for all veterans who have their DD-215 discharge papers. For more information, call (724) 347-9257, ext. 117.

Operation Iraqi Freedom
Air Force Staff Sgt. Kenneth W. Dallies is at a forward operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dallies, an electronic computer and switching systems craftsman, is normally assigned to the 28th Communications Squadron, Ellsworth Air Force Base, Rapid City, S.D.
He is the son of Richard and Barb Dallies of East Liverpool. His wife, Lori, is the daughter of Gary and Karen Morris of East Liverpool.
Dallies graduated in 1993 from Beaver Local High School, Lisbon, and received an associate degree in 1995 from Jefferson Community College, Steubenville.
Return from deployment
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Wayne E. Ford Jr., son of Maryann Ford of Warren, and Wayne E. Ford Sr. of Niles, has returned from a seven-month deployment to Iraq. He is assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 24 in Huntsville, Ala.
Ford's unit supported Marine and Army efforts by building forward operating bases in three locations. The Seabees also rebuilt a large section of a major runway in support of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing and installed a helicopter landing pad able to withstand mortar fire. Ford is a 1989 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Warren.
Task Force Baghdad
Army Capt. Kelly Lewis, stationed at Fort Stewart, Ga., deployed in January 2005 to Iraq. She is the deputy public affairs officer for the 3rd Infantry Division and Task Force Baghdad.
Lewis, daughter of Dan and Elaine Lewis of Boardman, is a 1988 graduate of Boardman High School and a 1994 graduate of Youngstown State University, where she completed the Army ROTC Program. She is scheduled to return to Fort Stewart in early 2006.

Informational forum today
Top officials of the Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., will present an admissions information forum for middle and high school students from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the Westlake High School Performing Arts Center, 27830 Hilliard Road, Westlake. The event is open to students and their families and high school guidance counselors.
