Media treatment was'unforgivable,' Depp says
LONDON -- Johnny Depp says he was appalled by the vilifying of his ex-girlfriend Kate Moss after pictures of her allegedly snorting cocaine were published in Britain.
"The first thing that went through my mind was I was concerned for her, hoping that she was OK and that she and her baby were OK," said Depp, 42, who dated the supermodel for four years until 1998.
"No. 2 was just being appalled and shocked at the kind of vicious attacks," Depp said in an interview Friday with a British morning TV show.
"She's super sharp, really smart and [has] got a great heart. She's a good mum, and she just happens to be human, and the press wouldn't allow that, and that's unforgivable."
Moss, 31, recently left a U.S. rehab clinic and was reunited with her 3-year-old daughter, Lila Grace.
Paul McCartney readsfrom new kids book
LOS ANGELES -- Besides being a grandfather, a knight, and a former Beatle, Paul McCartney is now a children's book author.
The 63-year-old singer entertained a young group of cute but squirmy elementary school pupils Thursday by reading an excerpt from his new book "High in the Clouds" and answering questions.
Today, the rock star will provide the first-ever live wake-up call to the crew of the International Space Station.
The reading got some unexpected responses from the young audience.
In the first six pages of McCartney's book, about an industrious squirrel named Wirral (named after McCartney's hometown), Wirral's mother is crushed to death by a tree knocked down by nature-hating developers. From there, he sets off for the mythic animal-loving land of Animalia.
"Why did the author make such sad stories for children?" asked one perplexed little boy.
Caught off-guard, McCartney wrapped his arm around the boy and joked, "To make children cry."
"But cheer up. It's going to be all right," he quickly added.
