Hill inks three for next year
The players are from Akron, Maple Heights and Rochester, Pa.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown State women's basketball program has signed Ta-myra Davis (Akron), Anjalia Lyons (Maple Heights) and Kaitlyn March (Rochester, Pa.) to national letters of intent during the early signing period, Coach Tisha Hill said Friday.
"This is a very exciting time for Penguin Basketball," Hill said. "With these three new signees, we continue to move as a program in the right direction. All three players are exciting to watch and have the winning attitude and makeup we look for in our student-athletes.
"It is a very strong, talented class we are bringing in to continue our quest for a Horizon League title," Hill said.
Davis, a 6-foot-1 forward from Firestone High, was a Division I special mention All-Ohio and a first-team all-district selection last season.
Davis averaged 18.4 points and 17.7 rebounds per game in 2004-05, and averaged 16.1 points, 17 rebounds and seven blocked shots per game as a sophomore. She has scored 978 points and grabbed 1,010 rebounds in her high school career.
Post presence
"Ta-myra will be one of our first players in my tenure here at YSU with the capability of playing at the perimeter or post position," Hill said. "She brings a true athleticism and size to either position."
Lyons, a 6-4 post from Cleveland Central Catholic, is a three-year starter and averaged eight points and nine rebounds per game as a junior.
"A.L. brings strength and size to our athletic frontcourt," Hill said. "She has a strong, physical presence that will open up many options for us inside."
March, a 5-8 guard, averaged 17 points and 4.3 rebounds per game last season and set a school record for most points in a single game with 33. March was also named the team's Most Valuable Player in 2004-05.
"Kaitlyn is a very competitive player who will certainly add to our outside threat upon her arrival," Hill said. "She loves to compete and will work hard for you day in and day out to benefit the team."
