Contemporary worship
HOWLAND -- Wednesday Night Alive, an evening of contemporary worship with music by guitarist Fred Lee, is planned at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Howland Community Church, 198 Niles-Cortland Road S.E. (state Route 46) at Howland Corners. Fellowship and discussion will follow.
Flame Fellowship
BOARDMAN -- Greater Youngstown Chapter of Flame Fellowship will meet Monday at Georgeanna Parker Activity Center at Boardman Township Park. Guest speaker will be Pastor Bonnie Verdenek of the ministry of Righteousness Being Restored. Fellowship starts at 6:30 and ministry at 7.
Evangelist to visit
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Evangelist Sharon Marie Harris will speak this weekend at Living Word Christian Center, 21 S. Maysville Road.
Programs will be at 7 p.m. Fridaywith a special women's ministry event and at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Nov. 20. The Milwaukee woman is the co-founder of Hope Alive World Outreach Ministries.
Lessons and carols
YOUNGSTOWN -- St. Columba Cathedral, 144 W. Wood St., will present the annual Festival of Lessons and Carols at 7 p.m. Nov. 27. The Cathedral Choir, directed by Dr. Daniel Laginya, will perform works by Howells, Biebl, Poulenac, Ferko and Clemens. The program is free. A reception will follow in cathedral hall.
Speaker at center
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Don Bartow, founder-director of Total Living Center in Canton, will be guest speaker at 4 p.m. next Saturday at Lifcare Ministry Center Lucille Orr Ministries Inc., 5357 Raccoon Road.
Kerygma series
BOARDMAN -- St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., will offer a four-session Kerygma series, "A Light Will Shine," at 7 p.m. Nov. 22 and Nov. 29 and Dec. 13 and Dec. 20. The interactive study sessions will provide perspectives on the Advent journey to Christmas and beyond.
People of all denominations may participate. Call the church office at (330) 758-2727 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday to reserve a place and receive registration material. The resource book costs $12.
Retreat weekend
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- Villa Maria Retreat Center will have an Advent retreat weekend, "Radical Amazement," from 7 p.m. Dec. 2 to noon Dec. 4. Judy Cannato, author of "Quantum Grace: Lenten Reflections on Creation and Connectedness" and "Quantum Grace: The Sunday Readings," will be speaker. Hurricane relief concert
BOARDMAN -- A concert is planned at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St. The free event will feature church choirs from Mahoning, Poland and Boardman Methodist churches and Praise Bands from Canfield and Boardman United Methodist churches. Joyspring, a women's ensemble, will perform. Craig Carson will perform "We Lift Our Voices," which was written for victims of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma. A love offering will be collected with funds going to hurricane relief.
Pastors' council
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Baptist Pastors' Council of Youngstown and Vicinity will sponsor "Calling Youngstown to Prayer" at 6:45 p.m. Sunday at Rising Star Baptist Church, 2943 Wardle Ave. Host pastor is the Rev. Terry S. Bolds. "Zion Is Calling Us to a Higher Place" is the theme for 2005-06.
AJC offers booklet
The American Jewish Committee is offering a booklet, America's Table, that celebrates the diversity of American society by profiling nine men and women. The stories in the booklet are meant to prompt a discussion about the meaning of Thanksgiving. The booklet is available through AJC chapters and online at www.ajc.org. Previous editions of the publication also are available online. There is a Cleveland Chapter of AJC.
