Autumn's splendor long ago reached its peak, but the blazing foliage and sapphire skies may have inspired many of us to get away for the weekend.
Of course, with gas prices soaring, most of us won't be planning a road trip to a quaint New England inn.
But then again, maybe we don't need to.
The Mahoning and Shenango valleys boast numerous charming bed and breakfasts fit to give old New England a run for its money.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this lavish Victorian mansion was completed in 1871 and was acquired in 1879 by local banker and industrialist Charles Nelson Schmick.
