Students write play
CANFIELD -- What do you do if your mother is a radical, if every kids in the school avoids eye contact with you, or if your nickname isn't so funny?
You write a play about it.
That's what six students at Canfield High School did, along with their drama club adviser, Becky Heikkinen.
The result is "Voices," a two-act play that will be performed at 7:30 Nov. 18 and 19 at the CHS auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults and can be purchased at the door or by calling (330) 533-1436.
The contributing playwrights were Sara Pecchia, Tommy Johnson, Joe Rosko, Danielle Pauley, Courtney Franklin and John Stefanski.
Brittany Myhal and Mallory Naffah, both students, choreographed a big dance number with Lauren Gessner and Tommy Porter as featured dancers. Thirty-one actors and 10 additional students are in the dance number.
And Michael Teutsch wrote music to accompany lyrics written by Heikkinen.
Some of the topics covered include getting your first paycheck, acknowledgeing that it's OK if you can't dance, dealing with a sister leaving for college, and pulling a nasty prank on a teacher.
'Harry Potter' on IMAX
PITTSBURGH -- Moviegoers will have the opportunity to further immerse themselves in the adventure of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" when the film opens at Carnegie Science Center's Rangos Omnimax Theater on Nov. 18.
Digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience‚ "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: The IMAX Experience" will debut concurrently with the nationwide release in regular movie theaters.
In "Goblet," Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) must contend with being mysteriously selected to compete in the prestigious Triwizard Tournament, a thrilling international competition that pits him against older and more experienced students from Hogwarts and two rival European wizarding schools. Meanwhile, supporters of Harry's nemesis, the evil Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), send a shockwave of fear throughout the wizard community when their Dark Mark scorches the sky at the Quidditch World Cup, signaling Voldemort's return to power. But for Harry, this is not the only harrowing news causing him anxiety -- he still has yet to find a date for Hogwarts' Yule Ball dance.
Carnegie Science Center will show "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: The IMAX Experience" daily from Nov. 18 until Jan. 19. Ticket prices are $10 ($8 for those 12 and under or 62 and older). For more information on hours, prices or show times call (412) 237-3400 or visit www.CarnegieScienceCenter.org.

Back in the kindergarten days, swapping was king. Didn't like your lunch? Swap it! Sick of your old toys? Swap 'em!
Well, swapping is not just for little kids anymore thanks to SwapThing.com.
This isn't about trading a turkey sandwich for peanut butter. SwapThing.com is full of swappable things that teens love -- trendy clothes, video games, accessories, books, electronics and so much more. You can swap a DVD for that pair of jeans you've been wanting, or pay a lesser price for that CD you've been eyeing at the record store, or exchange your services (like washing someone's car) for that cute little bracelet you thought you'd never be able to afford.
SwapThing.com is easy to use. First, register for your free account. Then make a list of items you want to swap that can be viewed by other SwapThing.com account members; finally, wait for someone to make an offer on your items, or propose your own swaps. Each person involved in a swap is charged one dollar. Those who swap services will be charged a $10 transaction fee.
