Raccoon bites worker inside chair company
YOUNGSTOWN -- A raccoon entered Gasser Chair Company on Logan Avenue on Wednesday afternoon and bit a 62-year-old man who works there, police said.
The man was treated at Forum Health Northside Medical Center. Other employees destroyed the animal before police arrived. The dead raccoon was placed in the police garage freezer pending pickup by the health department, reports show.
Arson to blame forfires at vacant house
YOUNGSTOWN -- Multiple fires were set in a vacant two-story wood house at 811 Parkview Ave. around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, said fire Lt. Kevin Johnson.
Debris samples were taken to determine what type of accelerant was used. Johnson said a request was placed with the city for emergency demolition of the house because of the extensive damage.
Boy taken into custody, charged over BB gun
WARREN -- An 11-year-old boy who attends Western Reserve Middle School was taken to the Juvenile Justice Center after he was accused of displaying a BB handgun on a school bus Wednesday morning.
The gun was recovered from his locker at the school.
The boy was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and inducing panic. There was no damage, and there were no injuries.

County seeks solicitor
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County commissioners are looking for a new county solicitor.
The county solicitor, Atty. John Hodge, was elected a common pleas court judge Tuesday and will take office in January.
Hodge has been county solicitor since Jan. 1, 2000. He had previously served 111/2 years as county solicitor ending in the early 1990s.
County commissioners said they intend to send letters to all attorneys in the county advertising the opening and hope to hire a new solicitor before Hodge leaves the post.
Township new hires
HILLSVILE, Pa. -- Colleen Martin of Slippery Rock has been hired as sewage enforcement officer for Mahoning Township.
Supervisors unanimously hired her when they met Wednesday to replace Bill Klingensmith, who died Sunday.
Martin will hold the post until the end of the year. She could be rehired at the annual reorganizational meeting in January.
Supervisors also hired Philip Weiner and Co. to audit the township's 2005 books and records.
Hibernian breakfast
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Joseph T. Nalley, Division 6 is hosting a commemorative communion prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The Mass will be at St. Patrick's Church, 1410 Oak Hill Ave.

Prizes for recycling
WARREN -- You can win a prize if caught recycling next week at any of the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District's 45 drop-off sites.
To celebrate America Recycles Day on Tuesday, the district's staff will visit the drop off sites and award residents who participate in recycling.
Some prizes to be distributed are recycled polyester tote bags, T-shirts and duffel bags -- all made from recycled plastic bottles.
Other items awarded will include recycled rubber tire wallets and coin purses, along recycled-bottle glass sun catchers.
