Phantom's Urban gets player of week honor

BOARDMAN -- Mahoning Valley Phantoms defenseman Dennis Urban was named the North American Hockey League Sher-Wood defensive player of the week for the period ending Nov. 6.
The Pittsburgh native was instrumental in helping the Phantoms go 2-0-1 over the weekend. In a 5-4 overtime loss to the U.S. National Under-17 Team, Urban assisted on what would have been the game-tying goal, scored by Anthony Ciraulo, with 3:25 remaining in the third period. But after the U.S. regained the lead just 22 seconds later, Urban saved his best for last, scoring himself with 10.4 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.
In the 3-0 win at Alpena, Mich., Urban scored a power play goal in the first period that would prove to be the game-winner. The next night, he haunted the Ice Diggers again, assisting on Marc Menzione's game-tying tally, en route to a 5-2 victory.
In 16 games, Urban has three goals and six assists. His nine points lead all Phantoms defensemen and ties him for 12th overall among all NAHL blue liners.
He is the third Phantom to receive such honors in the last four weeks. Anthony Ciraulo and Menzione were awarded offensive players of the week on Oct. 16 and Oct. 30, respectively.
The Phantoms are at Cleveland for two games this weekend, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
