To keep official, village creates job

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Village council has unanimously created a position to retain the village's longtime clerk-treasurer.
At a special meeting Monday, council accepted the resignation of Carl Flitcraft Jr. He had to resign because he is moving out of the village and into Springfield Township.
Council then established the appointed position of village fiscal officer to replace the elected clerk-treasurer post, waived the three-reading rule, and hired Flitcraft for the new position.
He will be paid the same as for his elected post, $500 a month.
Council members had been concerned they couldn't find a village resident to replace Flitcraft, because he has run unopposed in the last several elections.
