Joint fire district to receive grant

POLAND -- The Western Reserve Joint Fire District will receive a $187,785 federal grant to buy emergency generators and diesel exhaust reduction systems for its stations.
Chief David Comstock Jr. said the grant covers about 90 percent of the $200,000 cost for the equipment.
The emergency generators will be used during power outages to heat the stations and also to allow items like door openers to be operational when power goes out, the chief said.
The grant is part of U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine's Firefighter Investment and Response Enhancement Act. The program provides competitive grants to local fire departments to help them better serve and protect residents and their property.
Western Reserve Joint Fire District includes three fire stations and serves both the village and township.
During the fiscal year 2006 appropriations process, DeWine, R-Ohio, a member of the appropriations committee, helped secure $545 million for the FIRE Act.
