WARREN -- Trumbull County voters chose to put new faces behind the board table in several board-of-education contests.
Warren voters chose incumbent Robert Faulkner and newcomer Shari Harrell as members of the Warren Board of Education, out of nine candidates who sought the two open seats.
Faulkner was the only incumbent in the race; Lynn Gibson chose not to seek re-election.
Faulkner, a retired community relations manager for Delphi Packard Electric Systems, said his record over the last 14 years as a board member spoke for itself. He said voters understood his mission and place on the school board.
"I ran on my record -- 14 years and we have made tremendous strides," he said. "The voters of Warren understand what we are trying to do."
Harrell, who has a career in real estate, said she was honest with the voters about her ideas and plans. As a first step, she would like to work on improving the district report card and test scores on standard state test.
Niles decision
Voters in Niles chose to place two new faces on the school board. Incumbent John Davis sought re-election but was not elected. Incumbent Nick Bernard did not seek re-election.
Robert Marino Sr. won about 30 percent of the total vote. Susan Longacre received about 21 percent.
Marino could not be reached to comment.
Longacre credits her work experience, education and having a child in the system as reasons voters decided to give her a position on the board. She plans to secure funding for the schools and increase performance on standardized tests.
There was a crowded field of 12 candidates for Brookfield school board. The three elected are Dean Disher, Joseph Pasquerilla and Stephen Varga. Two incumbents, John McBride and Joanne Sydlowski, ran unsuccessful campaigns, with McBride getting the least votes of the dozen candidates.
Incumbent Linda Ashelman was unseated in Champion but board member Larry Durch kept his seat. Also elected are Laurie Jo Miller and Maureen Seafert.
Hubbard Board of Education has two new faces, Raymond DeLuco and Benjamin Hayek; incumbents Jack Murphy and Robert Toth were among the defeated in the field of six hopefuls.
