Mother is charged with leaving kids alone 3 days
SHEFFIELD LAKE, Ohio (AP) -- A woman accused of leaving her four children home alone for three days has been charged with child endangering, police said.
Alicia Gibson, 29, is scheduled to appear in Lorain Municipal Court on Thursday. She was being held in the Lorain County jail on $5,000 bond and could not be reached for comment.
Police received an anonymous phone call last Thursday and checked the woman's home. Police said Gibson told her children -- ages 8, 11, 12 and 13 -- she was going on a date.
The children, now staying with a great-uncle, are in good health.
Gibson grew up without a father, and her mother, Evelyn Huffman, was killed about three years ago in Youngstown. Huffman's 22-year-old niece, who once lived with the family, pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
