Spat may have led to death, cops say

Police are investigating the homicide, but no arrests have been made.
GIRARD -- City police are investigating a homicide that they say probably stemmed from a minor disagreement.
According to police reports, officers were called to the parking lot of the Creekside Golf Dome on North State Street just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday for a fight in the parking lot that had left an unconscious man lying on the ground. Officers were already investigating a possible burglary in progress somewhere else in the city when a second call was made to the department saying the man was breathing shallowly.
When officers arrived at the Golf Dome parking lot, reports say, they found 36-year-old Kevin Elza of Bristolville lying on the ground covered with blood and with an "ashen gray appearance." Several people were attempting to perform CPR on Elza, reports said.
Elza was taken to St. Elizabeth's Health Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Bar dispute
Police said the parking lot fight was the result of a bar dispute. Police said it was likely the result of a minor disagreement that probably could have been avoided.
Police are questioning those at the scene, but no arrests have been made in the homicide.
Police did, however, charge a 24-year-old Girard man with misdemeanor obstruction of official business for causing a disturbance in the parking at the same time officers were tending to Elza.
According to reports, Christopher Damico of Shannon Road started using profanity toward officers. Reports say he was intoxicated and belligerent.
