Properties are declared public nuisance
CHAMPION -- Township trustees declared three properties a public nuisance.
The township will clean up the properties and add the cost onto the tax bills of the properties so the township can be reimbursed for its costs.
The township will remove vegetation, raw and animal garbage, cars, refuse, furniture, foul smell, and debris from 287 Center St. East. Officials estimate the cost of the cleanup at $11,200.
At 4441 N. Leavitt Road, the township will cut vegetation, including high grass. Township officials said the property at 6084 Oakhill Drive has to be rebuilt or the county health board will order the house razed. Officials gave no estimate of the cost of those cleanups.
In other business at the trustees' meeting Monday, Fire Chief Lewis Austin reported that the fire department installed 200 smoke detectors in Champion residences in October.
Police Chief Dennis Steinbeck said he wants the public to know that there is "not" a rash of car thefts in the Champion area as reported in several newsletters.
