Group performs school's alma mater
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown city school board got a serenade Monday as 10 young men from the Alpha School of Excellence for Boys sang the school's new alma mater, "The Alpha Theme Song."
The school district created the Alpha School as one of two gender schools for seventh- and eighth-graders this year.
Athena is the school for girls. Dr. Wendy Webb, superintendent, said the boys and their music teacher developed the song and she invited them to present it to the board.
The singers got a standing ovation from the board and a crowd of more than 30 people, and the school board voted to endorse the alma mater "as a worthy component of this school's focus on high expectations and the promotion of academic excellence."
