2 teenagers charged in cops' assault
One teen is accused of jumping on a cop's back and jabbing him in the ribs.
BOARDMAN -- Two juveniles were charged with assault on a police officer and resisting arrest outside of a Tiffany Boulevard business.
Police were called to the Skate Connection, where a large crowd had assembled Saturday night.
Police reports put the crowd estimate at about 300 people. A fight among several people broke out, and the participants fled in different directions before police could identify them.
An officer told one person, a 13-year-old Youngstown boy, to leave the parking lot or to find his ride home. Another fight broke out shortly thereafter, and as the officer approached to break it up, the 13-year-old jumped on the officer's back, jabbed him in the ribs and fled.
Officers pursued the boy, handcuffed him after taking him to the ground, and placed him into the rear of a cruiser.
A short time later, a 14-year-old Youngstown girl was seen standing near a car and screaming vulgarities, a report said.
Two officers approached the girl, telling her to get into the car and to leave the lot. The girl stepped forward, stood chest to chest with one of the officers, swore several times, slapped one officer in the chest, and then got into the car, the police report says.
Police pulled her from the car to arrest her and she fought with the officers, flailing her arms. Police had to use pepper spray to subdue the girl and place her in handcuffs.
Both youths were placed in the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center in Youngstown.
