Cinques observe anniversary with family, friends
XSTRUTHERS -- The home of Mr. and Mrs. Amedeo Cinque, 528 Maplewood Ave., was the setting Oct. 7 as friends and relatives gathered to honor the couple on the occasion of their 65th wedding anniversary.
Arrangements for the celebration were made by their daughter, Antoinette Cinque of Struthers.
Mr. Cinque and the former Ermelinda Piedimonte were married Oct. 7, 1940, at Santa Maria Delle Grazie Church in Castelbottaccio, Campobasso, Italy.
Mr. Cinque served with the Italian Air Force in the ground service from 1938-1939 and was recalled in October 1940 to serve with the 70th Battalion in Northern Italy. When the battalion broke up, he had no communication with his family for 20 months until returning home in 1945 at the end of the war. He came to the United States from Italy in 1952, Mrs. Cinque arrived in 1957 and their daughter in 1959, and they became U.S citizens.
The couple have been members of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church since 1965 and are also members of St. Nicholas Altar and Rosary Society and S.O.A.R. in Pittsburgh.
A retired blacksmith, Mr. Cinque was employed as a helper scarfer at Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. prior to retiring in 1977.
Mrs. Cinque, a homemaker, is a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society in Lowellville and AARP National.
