Avon fund-raiser
This year's Avon Gund project will provide stuffed puppies for Mahoning and Trumbull counties' children's services departments.
Anita Traylor, who worked for Mahoning County's agency and is now Avon district sales manager here, explained that the gift, "this year ... is a stuffed puppy, which costs $16.99. The representatives are forfeiting their profit for charity, so a $10 donation will purchase one puppy."
Children's Services places abused children in foster care. Traylor said they deliver the toys to the board or to social workers, wearing Santa hats. The toys go directly to the children or to the foster homes.
Traylor's goal is to expand beyond Children's Services this year. "We would like to also give to area rescue missions, battered women's shelters, and even nursing homes," she said. "And if we are successful enough, we will donate to Katrina victims. Avon has a long history of charitable donations. It has given $400 million to breast cancer research."
For more information contact Traylor at (330) 729-9515, or her assistant, Rita West, at (330) 743-2548.
