Veterans, Heroes Day
BELOIT -- Veterans and Heroes Day will be observed during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship at Beloit Friends Church, 18042 Fifth St. Veterans, police, firefighters, councilmen and school board members will be recognized.
Speaker will be retired Lt. Col. Larry Hawkins of Alliance, whose military career has taken him to Germany, San Francisco, Thailand, Vietnam and service at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He and his wife plan to become mobile missionaries.
Military tribute
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sts. Peter & amp; Paul Catholic Church, 421 Covington St., will have a memorial Mass and military tribute at 4 p.m. next Saturday to honor parishioners who served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam and other conflicts around the world.
Bagpiper Ben Martin will lead the tribute and John Bistrica, a D-Day veteran of Normandy, will place a wreath in honor of veterans. The playing of taps will conclude the event.
There will be a ceremonial reading of names of deceased veterans at 3:15 p.m. Parishioners with family members who served should contact Richard Kokar at (330) 792-6497 or John Matasic at (330) 792-7880.
Eucharistic devotions
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, 252 E. Wood St., will hold solemn Eucharistic devotions Nov. 14. Services will start at 8:30 a.m. with adoration continuing until 6:30 p.m. There will be a procession of the Blessed Sacrament. A reception with refreshments will follow in the church hall.
Homecoming at church
YOUNGSTOWN -- Our Lady of Hungary Church, 545 N. Belle Vista Ave., will celebrate Thanksgiving homecoming after the noon Mass Nov. 13. Andrew Check of Chesterland will play the cimbalom and dobos torta will be served.
Guest preacher
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Dr. Sherman G. Hicks, mission director for the Division of Outreach of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will be the guest preacher for Consecration Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 13 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 420 Clearmount Drive. A catered luncheon will follow.
Showing set
NORTH LIMA -- A premiere showing of the new Veggie Tale production, "Lord of the Beans," will be at 6 p.m. next Saturday at North Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive. The movie for all ages will be followed by snacks in fellowship hall.
Musical ministry
BOARDMAN -- A presentation by the Bob Jones University Musical Ministry Team will take place at 10:45 a.m. Nov. 13 at Boardman Baptist Church, 1207 Shields Road. There will be vocal, piano and brass arrangements of hymns and gospel songs. Nathan Hill, team leader, will speak.
Scripture study
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- Villa Maria Retreat Center will present a program on "Season of Advent and the Gospel of Mark," as part of its ongoing Scripture Study Days series. Sister Ardeth Blake will lead the program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 15. Other dates, next year, will be Jan. 24, Marck 21 and May 6.

Joyful Noise concert
YOUNGSTOWN -- Protestant Family Service will sponsor Make a Joyful Noise concert at 4 p.m. Nov. 13 at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, 3919 Southern Blvd. Refreshments will follow. A free-will offering will be taken.
Musical on Joseph
YOUNGSTOWN -- "Joseph: From the Pit to the Palace," a musical, will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. next Saturday and 11 a.m. Nov. 13 at Tabernacle Church, 2432 S. Raccoon Road. The presentation is free.
Benefit concert
YOUNGSTOWN -- A benefit concert is planned at 4 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 30 W. Front St., and will feature Jeffrey Trimble on the organ and Amanda Beagle, soprano, Miss Ohio 2004.
A free-will offering will be taken with funds going to the Protestant Campus Ministry at Youngstown State University.
Pastor to be honored
YOUNGSTOWN -- Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, 917 Shehy St., will honor their pastor, Edgar Fisher Jr., on his second anniversary during a program at 5 p.m. Sunday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Arlington St. The Rev. Kenny Paramore and congregation of United Baptist Church, Akron, will be special guests.
Polka Mass planned
McDONALD -- A polka folk Mass is planned at 5 p.m. next Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Ohio Avenue.
Family week set
CAMPELL -- Faith Temple Baptist Church, 125 Roosevelt Drive, will celebrate its pre-anniversary family week at 7 p.m. Nov. 14-18 and at 4 p.m. Nov. 20. Various pastors from the community will speak.
Speaker planned
COLUMBIANA -- "The Man in the Mirror" will be the topic of speaker Roger Miller during a program at 6 p.m. Sunday at Zion Hill Church of the Brethren, 14550 New Buffalo Road. Miller is a lay speaker and has been a member of Zion Hill for 25 years.
Growth conference
YOUNGSTOWN Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave., will hold its ninth annual church growth conference from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
