Sister Gay Rowzie to profess perpetual vows at liturgy



The Louisiana native became a candidate in 1999.
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- Sister Gay Rowzie will profess perpetual vows as a Sister of the Humility of Mary during the Liturgy of Final Profession Sunday in Magnificat Chapel at Villa Maria. The Rev. Pat Ferraro, pastor of St. Joan of Arc Church in Streetsboro, will preside.
The Sisters of the Humility of Mary welcomed Sister Gay as a candidate Oct. 16, 1999. During her year of candidacy she continued in ministry as secretary of education and evangelization in the Office of Christian Formation in the Diocese of Charleston, S.C., a position she held from 1995-2000. She began her novitiate Oct. 22, 2000, and professed temporary vows Oct. 12, 2002.
While a novice, Sister Gay, volunteered at the Ravenna Office of Catholic Charities in the Senior Assistance Program and was involved in prison ministry to women who are incarcerated in the Summit County jail. Since 2003, she has served as director of mission integration for Humility of Mary Health Partners at The Assumption Village, North Lima. A Streetsboro resident and member of St. Joan of Arc Church, she has been involved this past year in the women's renewal.
Background
Sister Gay earned a bachelor's degree in elementary and special education from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La. After moving to South Carolina, she received a master's and doctorate in educational research and measurement from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.
During her novitiate she attended classes in theology and spirituality at St. Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology, Wickliffe; Ursuline College, Pepper Pike; and Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Sister Gay, a daughter of Sinclair and Eloise Goodman, is a native of Baton Rouge, La. She has a son who lives in Japan and her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter live in Lexington, S.C.
