Man gets 7 years in car wreck that kills fetus
CINCINNATI (AP) -- A man who pleaded guilty to causing a car wreck that killed a fetus was sentenced to seven years in prison.
Scott Crandall, 19, admitted to killing the fetus when he intentionally ran his car into the vehicle carrying mother-to-be Ebony Foster.
In Crandall's hearing Friday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court, Foster, 17, said no sentence was adequate justice for her unborn child's death.
"Nothing will bring my baby back," she said through tears.
Prosecutors said Crandall hit the driver's side of the vehicle Foster was riding in after he fought with the driver, Yalanda Brown, over an earlier fender-bender.
The Dec. 8 crash sent the vehicle into a pole. Foster's fetus, which was about three weeks from full term, died of blunt force trauma.
Crandall, of Hamilton, 18 miles north of Cincinnati, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and three counts of felonious assault.
It is a crime under Ohio law to harm or kill a fetus.
