Ground is broken for addition to building

NORTH JACKSON -- Jackson Township officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony for the addition to the township's administration/police building on Mahoning Avenue.
Township Clerk Judy Patton said she and township trustees Charles Booth, Steven Gondol and John Jakubek were joined at the ceremony Saturday by Mahoning County Commissioners Dave Ludt and Anthony Traficanti.
The 5,200-square-foot addition will include a 2,600-square-foot community meeting room for use by the public. Regulations regarding use of that facility are still being worked out, Patton said.
The other half of the $823,000 addition will house various township offices including the clerk and secretary as well as the road, cemetery and zoning departments.
Funding for the addition includes $123,000 from the county's sales tax revenue sharing program and a $22,000 grant from the county's recycling department.
The Augere Construction Co. of Akron will begin work on the addition Monday, officials said.
