Committee approves bill for service center
HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Legislation sponsored by state Sen. Bob Robbins of Greenville, Pa., R-50th, that would enhance the status of the Center for Local Government Services has been approved by the Senate Community and Economic Development Committee.
The Center for Local Government Services -- the state's one-stop shop for local governments -- is within the Department of Community and Economic Affairs, and provides a full range of technical and financial assistance to all local governments.
Its mission is to be the principal advocate for local governments; provide vital programs, services and training to local officials and municipal employees; and cut through red tape expeditiously to solve problems at the local level.
"With over 2,566 cities, townships and boroughs in Pennsylvania, it is imperative that they have a direct and formidable link with state government," Robbins said. "State Bill 261 would ensure that the center maintain a lead role in providing assistance to local officials now and in the future."
Senate Bill 261 now heads to the Senate Appropriations Committee for further consideration.
