CHARITIES Contributions



A list of contributions from donors in 2005 from the Diocese of Youngstown to Catholic Relief Services, which assists the poor and disadvantaged outside the United States. The total is $361,256 as of Nov. 4.
Southeast Asia Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund, $236,237. More than 600,000 people affected by the tsunami in Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand have been helped.
Catholic Relief Services Annual Appeal, $59,678. This national annual collection goes to general humanitarian work.
African/Niger Hunger Relief Fund, $8,317. The program helps rural households improve their food security through agriculture, health, microfinance and education projects. CRS/Niger targets the most vulnerable by focusing on its interventions on women, children, nomads and other high-risk groups.
Haiti Feeding the Poor Gift of Hope Project, $1,100. The program trains farmers to control soil erosion, protect the environment, increase productivity and help them buy seeds, tools and equipment.
Pakistan earthquake, $800. CRS has opened four offices and committed an initial $2 million to buy emergency relief supplies. The agency hopes to raise $5 million from its public and private donors for long-term relief efforts.
Central America/Hurricane Stan, $800. CRS has responded to thousands affected by this hurricane in Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Mexico and Honduras.
