Pupil singers to perform for hurricane aid
The group has raised nearly $2,000 so far.
BOARDMAN -- A group of Boardman pupils is raising money to ensure educational opportunities are preserved for pupils affected by Hurricane Katrina, and they're using music to do it.
Flood Aid By Boardman Students, organized after Katrina ravaged parts of Louisiana and Mississippi, has organized a hurricane relief effort.
Sing 4 Schools will run from noon to 1 a.m. Saturday at Jillian's in the Southern Park Mall. FABBS will accept donations from local businesses and organizations from noon to 3 p.m.
Starting at 3 p.m., 10 local bands will perform for one hour each. The lineup includes Up Next, Ten Cent Glamour, Johnie 3, Made In Canada, Another Found Self, The Rydells, Ten Count Fall, Rivers Edge, Via Sahara and Zach Rock Band.
FABBs will ask for $5 donations at the door. Other fund-raising activities at the concert will include a raffle featuring autographed memorabilia from the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Group's goal
The group was created with the premise to raise as much money as possible by Thanksgiving to help rebuild the educational system and buy textbooks and supplies for the schools in Mississippi and Louisiana that were affected by Hurricane Katrina and the floods that followed.
So far, FABBS has raised nearly $2,000. All of the money raised will be donated to the departments of education for both states.
