Vizquel's 10th Gold Glove is his first in National League
Cubs pitcher Greg Maddux received his 15th award.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Greg Maddux won his 15th Gold Glove on Wednesday, one shy of the record shared by pitcher Jim Kaat and third baseman Brooks Robinson.
Maddux set a record for Gold Gloves won in the National League -- Kaat won 14 in the AL and two in the NL. It was the second straight Gold Glove for Maddux and 15th in 16 seasons.
San Francisco shortstop Omar Vizquel won his 10th Gold Glove, his first in the NL after the nine straight he earned with the Cleveland Indians from 1993-2001.
"I was doubting that people were going to vote for me again," said Vizquel, who moved past Luis Aparicio into second place for Gold Gloves won by a shortstop, trailing only Ozzie Smith's 13.
"I think this has been the most emotional Gold Glove I had besides the first one because it marks a big thing in the history of baseball," Vizquel said. "I think I'm the second guy to reach double digits and it passes my idol for a long time, Luis Aparicio."
Jones wins again
Atlanta center fielder Andruw Jones won his eighth straight Gold Glove and St. Louis outfielder Jim Edmonds won his eighth, including the last six in a row.
Giants catcher Mike Matheny won his fourth overall and third straight. But he blamed himself for some of the pratfalls of the Giants' repeatedly changing rotation.
"It definitely added to the challenge, but also the frustration," he said. "I'm always pointing it at myself. I just didn't seem to help these guys in any way I wanted to."
A pair of Florida infielders also were honored, with second baseman Luis Castillo winning his third straight Gold Glove and third baseman Mike Lowell winning for the first time.
Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee won for the second time -- he won in 2003 with the Marlins but was replaced by Colorado's Todd Helton last year. Philadelphia right fielder Bobby Abreu was a first-time winner.
Matheny and Vizquel earned $100,000 bonuses, while Lee gets $75,000, Abreu and Edmonds $50,000 each and Castillo and Lowell $25,000 apiece.
