Evacuees' case reset after man fails to show
The place where the victim was found is a reputed high drug-activity area.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Marcus Thomas, wanted on charges of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery, was arrested Wednesday, said Deputy U.S. Marshal Dean Michael.
Michael said members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force found Thomas, 20, of East Warren Avenue hiding in the attic of a relative's house in the 3000 block of Rush Boulevard around 10 a.m.
Thomas' co-defendant is Jawan Johnson, 25, of East Judson Avenue, who also is charged with aggravated murder and aggravated robbery. Johnson was arrested at home Friday afternoon.
Thomas and Johnson were secretly indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury.
Both are charged with the Aug. 16 murder of Matthew J. Saunders, 40, of Youngstown, who was found dead in a parking lot at the southwest corner of Pyatt and Erie streets on the South Side. Saunders, who had been shot in the head, was on the ground outside the driver's side door of his white 1991 two-door Ford Escort.
The scene of the crime -- Pyatt and Erie -- has a reputation for drug and prostitution activity,
Detective Sgt. Daryl Martin has said that Saunders arranged to meet a prostitute in the parking lot. The woman was involved in the crime to some degree, the detective said.
