Dems to induct three into party's hall of fame
Akron's mayor is the event's guest speaker.
BOARDMAN -- The Mahoning County Democratic Party will honor three members of its old guard Thursday at its third annual Hall of Fame dinner at Mr. Anthony's Banquet Center, South Avenue.
Those being inducted into the Mahoning Democratic Hall of Fame are:
UAtty. Don L. Hanni Jr. of Coitsville, the party's former chairman who served in that capacity for 16 years ending in 1994, and a former county board of elections member.
UThe late William Repasky, who served as county recorder from 1981 to 1988. He also served as a county board of elections member, and a county commissioner clerk. He died in September 2001.
UDorothy McLaughlin of Struthers, a longtime party activist.
Akron mayor to speak
The guest speaker is Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic, first elected to the post in 1987.
American City & amp; County Magazine named Plusquellic the nation's "Municipal Leader of the Year" in 2003, and he served a one-year term as president of the United States Conference of Mayors, ending in June. In 1999, the organization honored him with its City Livability Award for his leadership of Akron.
He currently is the head of the Ohio's Big City Mayors association.
Doors open at 6 p.m.; dinner is at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person.
