Court lets sentence stand in bribery case
YOUNGSTOWN -- Retired contractor Bernard J. Bucheit's resentencing in Cleveland federal court didn't change from the two years he received in August 2003.
In April 2003, a jury found Bucheit guilty of conspiracy to violate the federal bribery statute, giving an unlawful gratuity to a public official (then-U.S. Rep. James A. Traficant Jr.) and perjury before a federal grand jury.
The case was appealed and remanded to U.S. District Judge Lesley Brooks Wells for resentencing.
The resentencing was posted Monday in court records.
Bucheit served his time and was released from prison in April -- before the appellate decision was issued.
Bucheit, 73, retired to Florida from Boardman.
Traficant, 64, convicted of racketeering, bribery and tax evasion, has been incarcerated since July 30, 2002. His projected release is Aug. 10, 2009.
