Two local boxers are set on card
Roland Commings and Billy Lyell are billed in bouts Nov. 23.
CHESTER, W. Va. -- Boxing returns to Mountaineer Race Track & amp; Gaming Resort Nov. 23 with the "Thanksgiving Feast".
The show features heavyweight Brian "The Beast" Minto" (21-1, 12 knockouts) of Butler, Pa., vs. Gary "The Bull" Winman (25-16, 17 KOs) of Pittsburgh, Pa. in the main event.
Minto is coming off a seven-round TKO of Vinny Maddalone on the Roy Jones, Jr.-Antonio Carver under-card. The one-punch KO was on ESPN's "Plays of the Week" and the fight was acclaimed as one of the bouts of the year.
Winman is no stranger to Mountaineer, having five of his 25 wins there in the 1990s. Some of his more notable opponents have been Joe Mesi, Oleg Maskaev and Kevin McBride.
Verquan "The Show" Kimbrough (13-0-1, 6 KOs) of Aliquippa, Pa. goes up against Feliciano Villa (5-2-1, 3 KOs) of Raleigh, N.C., in a co-feature bout.
Won IBA America crown
Kimbrough is coming off a 10-round unanimous decision over Marty Robbins to capture the IBA America's Super Featherweight Title. This is Kimbrough's fourth title win in his two-year professional career which is an extension of an amateur background that included five national amateur titles.
Kimbrough also fought in Las Vegas in June 2005, scoring a knockout win over Antonia Young in a bout that was seen live on ESPN deportes.
The card will also feature Monty Meza-Clay (17-0, 11 KOs) of Rankin, Pa. versus Derrick "The Dragon" Moon (11-10-1, 2 KOs) of Fort Worth, Texas, in an eight-round Lightweight bout.
Meza-Clay is coming off an eight-round decision over Reggie Sanders Sept. 30 in Des Moines, Iowa. Moon has never been stopped or knocked down.
Commings, Lyell billed
In their third meeting, George "da Butcher" Klinesmith (21-10-3, 13 KOs) of Bloomingdale, Ohio, will face Roland Commings (22-23-3, 10 KOs) of Youngstown. Their first bout was a draw in 2001 with the rematch in August 2005 ending with a majority decision in Klinesmith's favor. The bout will be for Klinesmith's West Virginia Jr. Middleweight belt in what should be the final chapter of the rivalry.
Also on the card will be world ranked and unbeaten Joe Wyatt (21-0, 13 KOs) of Pittsburgh, Pa., against Cornell Shinholster (13-9-1, 6 KOs) of Cincinnati. Another local boxer billed is junior middleweight Billy Lyell (8-2, 2 KOs) of Youngstown. Also slated is heavyweight prospect Nicolai Firtha (7-1-1, 4 KOs) of Akron.
The under-card begins at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $20 to $125, and can be purchased through any Ticketmaster location or on site at the Downtown Speakeasy Roarin 20's Players Club.
