Local doctor accused of domestic violence
CANFIELD -- An area doctor is scheduled to appear on a domestic violence charge at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mahoning County Court here.
Police arrested Dr. Robert J. Brocker Jr., 52, of Glenview Road, after they responded to a 911 call from his wife Sunday morning.
Four children were present at the house when the call was made, according to a police report.
Brocker has an office on Covington Street in Youngstown.
Brocker's wife, Kathy, told police she was upset because her husband was drinking and wouldn't help her with the children, the report said.
A confrontation
The report said Mrs. Brocker confronted her husband in his office on the first floor of the home, where she smashed empty bottles on the floor.
She said he grabbed her, pulled her toward the doorway of his office, then threw her to the ground. She hurt her head on the tile floor, the report said.
When police questioned Dr. Brocker, he said he escorted his wife to his office doorway to keep her from damaging the house, and she fell, the report said.
Guns taken
Police took three handguns from Dr. Brocker's truck and four rifles from his home, the report said. They also confiscated a bag of ammunition.
Mrs. Brocker had told the 911 dispatcher her husband had the guns. She said he did not threaten her with them.
Police arrested Dr. Brocker because of the physical evidence concerning his wife, the report said.
The physician posted a $1,500 cash bond and was released. The charge is a first-degree misdemeanor, which carries a penalty of up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
