Cedar Point to add ride, lower ticket prices
SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) -- Cedar Point will add a new thrill ride next year and lower ticket prices after a drop in attendance this year, the amusement park announced Monday.
The ride, called Skyhawk, will swing passengers 125 feet into the air and reach speeds of 60 mph. Two giant arms will rotate 20 riders on each side.
The $6 million ride will be built near the back of the park and open next May.
Cedar Point will lower the price of regular one-day admission by $5 to $39.95. Junior and senior tickets will cost $9.95.
And some food prices will drop too. Cotton candy will be sold for 25 cents -- down from $3.
"We are trying to make Cedar Point more affordable," park spokesman Bryan Edwards said.
Park attendance has been down the last few years because of a poor economy and high gas prices, he said.
The park announced earlier this year that it will remove a water flume ride to make room for future developments, and that it planned to sell Demon Drop -- a 131-foot-tall ride that drops riders at speeds up to 55 mph.
