YOUNGSTOWN -- Two men were shot around the same time early Monday in what police say may be related events. Jordan Hall, 22, of Tremble Avenue, Campbell, was shot in the abdomen and throat somewhere on the North Side, likely on Fairgreen Avenue. He showed up at Forum Health Northside Medical Center around 2:30 a.m. and was then transferred to St. Elizabeth Health Center. He was in critical condition late Monday night. Raul Irizarry, 28, of 16th Street, Campbell, showed up at Northside several minutes after Hall. Irizarry told police he was shot in the back as he walked in front of his mother's house on South Bruce Street on the East Side, but his mother was unaware of the injury until questioned by police.
Dictionary Project
WARREN -- The Warren Rotary Club will sponsor its fifth annual Dictionary Project this month to benefit third-graders in public and private schools throughout the city. The club will distribute nearly 500 dictionaries to seven elementary buildings in the Warren City School District today and Wednesday.
Funds for the hungry
YOUNGSTOWN -- For the fourth consecutive year, Marc's is raising funds to feed hungry children in the Mahoning Valley. When you buy items at Marc's through Nov. 24, a portion of the proceeds will be given to Second Harvest Food Bank, which provides food to 210 hungry relief agencies that serve Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
Downtown revitalization
WARREN -- Experts in downtown revitalization will conduct a free, public workshop from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Comfort Inn, 136 N. Park Ave. Pauline Eaton, revitalization director, and Joyce Barrett, program associate, both with the Columbus-based Downtown Ohio Inc., will present the workshop. Downtown Ohio Inc. is a nonprofit corporation organized to encourage development, redevelopment and improvement of Ohio's downtown areas and commercial districts. The workshop, to be conducted by the organization's downtown assessment resource team, is sponsored by the Warren Redevelopment and Planning Corp.
Pumpkins smashed
YOUNGSTOWN -- A man who lives in the 100 block of Manchester Avenue told police he saw as many as seven juveniles smashing pumpkins in his neighborhood Sunday evening. He said the pumpkin on his porch was smashed five minutes after he set it out. He told police the youths also damaged Halloween decorations in his front yard. Police were given an address on Connecticut to which the juveniles ran; the residents there said the youths were trying to get a ride home to North Schenley Avenue because a man was chasing them.
Woman sought inattempted abduction
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police said a woman who attempted to abduct a 9-year-old boy twice in Union Township on Saturday remains at large. On Monday, state police said they have not yet identified the woman and that she might be mentally unstable. Police reported the woman attempted to abduct the boy, while he was in the company of family, once at a convenience store in Union and once at a Union Township playground.
Victim assistance
WARREN -- The Salvation Army in Warren reports it has raised more than $69,000 locally to assist the victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. This includes $10,027 collected in an early red kettle campaign Sept. 9 and 10 in Eastwood Mall, which was fully matched by the Cafaro Co. Other donations were mailed to or dropped off at the Salvation Army, 270 Franklin St. S.E.
