Motorcycle crash leavesdriver seriously injured
SOUTHINGTON -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a Sunday motorcycle crash on Painsville-Warren Road that left the driver seriously injured.
The driver, whose name wasn't available Sunday night, was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown in a ditch at 5:28 p.m., according to a Trumbull County emergency dispatcher.
The driver was taken to the St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.
Robbery suspectarrested in Boardman
BOARDMAN -- A Cleveland woman accused of robbing a Boardman-Poland Road store was arrested after fleeing the business.
An employee at Payless Shoes told police that a woman came into the store about 5:20 p.m. Friday and demanded money from the store's cash register.
The employee complied, and the woman took two purses and $76 from the register before fleeing in a car.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Canfield Post, working in the area because of the Steel Valley Nationals, pulled over the woman, Marian Bernice Smith, 45, of Cleveland.
She was arrested and charged with robbery.
1 arrest at checkpoint
AUSTINTOWN -- A vehicle checkpoint operated by law enforcement on the 2400 block of South Raccoon Road on Saturday netted one arrest on a charge of operating a vehicle while impaired.
Officers at the Austintown location checked 324 cars, with each check taking about 30 seconds. Officers also made two misdemeanor arrests, issued 17 citations for failing to wear seat belts, and gave three warnings for no seat belts.
Agencies participating in the checkpoint included Austintown, Beaver, Canfield, Goshen, Jackson, New Middletown, Poland and Springfield police departments and the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office.

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Hispanic Relay for Life committee and team captains will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Organizacion Civica y Cultural Hispana Americana, 3660 Shirley Road.
