TRUMBULL COUNTY Music, fun, movies via Fine Arts Council

The Community Ampitheatre is at the heart of many of these events.
WARREN -- The Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County is kicking off a full slate of events this summer for residents from all over the Mahoning and Shenango valleys to enjoy.
All of the events are free.
Each Friday afternoon, from noon until 1 p.m. on Courthouse Square in downtown Warren, is "Noon in the Park," with music and food.
"'Noon in the Park' is a perennial favorite. It beckons the lunch crowd, the music lover and outdoor person to join us for an hour in the heart of downtown Warren -- Courthouse Square," said Bobbie Brown, FACT's director.
The entertainment schedule kicks off June 10 with Jeff Bremer and Friends. On June 17, Warren Junior Military Band performs, and on the 24th Dr. John Vlad will direct the Top Notes. That's also "Community Day in the Park," with local nonprofit organizations offering information and education.
"Noon in the Park" events continue through Aug. 5, with "Chalk on the Walk" and a magic show set for 12:30 p.m. July 29.
The refreshments available for purchase include gyros, hot dogs, pizza, fresh fruit, lemon shakes, nachos, apple dumplings and ice cream.
Musical performances are funded in part by the Recording Industries Music Performance Fund in cooperation with Local 118, American Federation of Musicians.
Special Saturday nights
On selected Saturdays during the summer there will be "Saturday Night Specials," a series of family fun activities and entertainment offerings at the Warren Community Amphitheatre.
"Saturday will be family day in downtown Warren," Brown said. "Come before our main events at 7:30 p.m. and let the children enjoy a variety of games and activities. Then stay for the variety of excellent performances each evening."
People can sample ancient music and dance, Russian folk songs, bluegrass "and more right in the comfort of your community's backyard," she said.
The schedule begins June 11, noon to 7 p.m., with a "Ladies Create for the Gate" art show; call (330) 399-1212 for information. At 7:30 p.m., guitarist Eleni Kelakos is six feet of presence, passion and personality with an original acoustic guitar performance. On June 25, the family fun activities are from 4 to 7 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., there's American Indigena: ancient music and dance of the Mayan and Aztec civilizations, brought to Warren as part of IMPACT (International Music and Performing Arts in Communities Tour), coordinated by the Ohio Arts council and the Ohio Arts Presenters Network.
These Saturday Night Specials run through Aug. 27. On July 23 children from St. Petersburg, Russia bring traditional folk music, stories and rituals of Russia to the stage.
Financial support for these events is provided by Trumbull 100, Warren Area Chamber of Commerce -- Educational, Cultural and Civic Foundation, Paige & amp; Byrnes Insurance, St. Joseph Health Center, First Place Bank, First Energy Foundation, Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Sky Bank and Sprint.
The Warren Community Amphitheatre is downtown at 303 Mahoning Ave. NW adjacent to Perkins Park and the Kinsman House. Free parking is available in Perkins Park and throughout the downtown area.
Food vendors will be on hand with a variety of menus at the Amphitheatre, or stop at a favorite local restaurant before coming to the show.
Classic film showings
The Amphitheatre at 9 p.m. on selected summer Friday evenings also offers "Movies and the Stars," a series of classic films under the night sky. Popcorn will be available for purchase. These shows run June 17-Aug. 26 with action, drama, comedy and Labor Day Weekend double features, Sept. 2-4.
"While I can't reveal the titles, I can tell you we've got movies to make you laugh, cry, dance and sing," Brown said. Licensing agreements keep the titles under wraps but people will know these family-friendly films.
"Something TaDoo," a free community concert series, aims to draw people to the Amphitheatre at 7 p.m. on Thursday evenings during the summer for the "Something TaDoo" schedule. The musical lineup from June 9 through Aug. 25 includes 70s & amp; 80s rock, oldies, polka, waltz, blues, adult contemporary, bluegrass and music of all nationalities.
"There is definitely something for everyone at this concert series," Brown said. "This series highlights the many talented musicians from our area."
Local talent
More music fills the Ampitheatre Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. this summer for "Tune It Up!" This offers performance venues for local young adult musicians who want to share their music with the community.
"I encourage the community to sample the unique musical offerings from these young performers," Brown said. "It will definitely be a break from tradition and promotes a diverse range of styles. Leave any preconceived notions at home and come ready to be entertained."
The current schedule from June 8 through Aug. 24 includes political punk rock, hip hop, rhythm and blues, folk, jazz, blues, light alternative rock, hardcore punk rock and more.
This series is going on the road to Newton Falls this summer for the "Tune It Up -- Newton Falls performance series" at the Newton Falls Community Center at 7 p.m. on selected dates (June 14, July 12, July 26 and Aug. 9).
"We invite everyone to join us in Newton Falls this summer for this expanded version of Tune It Up!" Brown said. "These energetic, alternative bands will offer a sampling of what today's diverse musical styles are all about."
These received financial support from the Newton Falls Parks and Recreation Department and the Newton Falls City Council. The Newton Falls Community Center is located at 52 East Quarry Street.
