Research scientist earnsJohn Hopkins doctorate
Robert Bozick Jr., formerly of Austintown, recently earned a doctorate in sociology from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, and is now employed as a research scientist at RTI International in Washington, D.C.
He has a master's degree from the University of Maryland and a bachelor's degree from Ohio University. Bozick is a 1995 graduate of Ursuline High School and the son of Robert Sr. and Andrea Bozick of Austintown.
SCOUTS
2 boys from areaearn Eagle awards
Two local boys recently received their Eagle Scout award, Boy Scouting's highest honor, at courts of honors. They are Shane Haddle of Poland and Zachariah S. Germaniuk of Warren.
Shane is a member of Troop 54, which meets at Brownlee Woods Presbyterian Church in Youngstown. The troop is led by Scoutmaster Dave Chauvin.
Shane, 15, has earned 29 merit badges and served as troop senior patrol leader, assistant patrol leader and scribe. He currently is junior assistant scoutmaster.
He has earned his God and Country award and is a member of the Order of the Arrow.
His Eagle service project was to benefit Joseph Badger Meadow Camp, where he led and organized his fellow scouts, friends and family in the construction of four wooden benches that were set in the area surrounding a meditation circle. He secured donations of wood and other material to complete his project.
Shane attends Poland Seminary High School, where he is a member of the high school marching band, track team and an Academic Challenge Team.
Zachariah, a son of Dr. and Mrs. Humphrey Germaniuk, is a John F. Kennedy High School senior and a member of Troop 15. His Scoutmaster is Tom Namola.
For his Eagle Project, Zachariah created a public service announcement depicting the dangers of teens drinking and driving, completed with the cooperation of WYTV Channel 33 in Youngstown.
He has held several troop leadership positions including patrol leader, senior patrol leader and junior assistant scoutmaster.
Zachariah is a member of the JFK soccer, speech and debate teams, and he has his own band.
