ON CAMPUS Boardman's Gesacion finishes career on top

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster senior second baseman Kevin Gesacion of Boardman was selected to the 2005 American Baseball Coaches Association All-Mideast region third team.
A four-year starter for the Titans who earned Presidents' Athletic Conference first team honors, Gesacion hit .368 (43-of-117) leading the team in hits and at-bats, and he posted a team and PAC-high 20 stolen bases.
He scored 28 runs, hit eight doubles, a home run and had 22 RBIs. Gesacion, one of three PAC players to earn all-region laurels, helped the Titans post a 21-16, 8-7 record and capture their first PAC title.
Senior designated hitter Brad Hochendoner, an Ursuline High graduate, completed the 2005 campaign hitting .350 (14-of-40) with two doubles, three home runs and 16 RBIs.
The Titans softball team ended the season with a 29-10, 4-4 PAC and finished second at the East Coast Athletic Conference Division II South region tournament.
Senior first baseman Heidi Kimmel, a Poland High graduate, batted .336 (45-of-134) with nine doubles, two triples, two home runs, five stolen bases and 30 RBIs.
Sophomore pitcher-designated hitter Jennifer Pancake of Boardman posted a 22-4 record with one save. She worked 167 1/3 innings, gave up 106 hits, walked 30 and struck out 117. At the plate she hit .276 (34-of-123) with seven doubles, three home runs and 24 RBIs.
Senior Phil Frye, a Mineral Ridge High graduate, completed his athletic career for the Titans as he placed fourth in the discus (149 feet, 2 inches) at the East Coast Athletic Conference Division III championships at Springfield, Mass.
Mount Union
Sophomore designated hitter Paul Namey of Hermitage earned Ohio Athletic Conference Academic honorable mention.
A sports management major with a 3.95 grade point average, Namey led the Purple Raiders with a .684 slugging percentage.
Ohio Northern
Sophomore Josh Conkey, a Ursuline High graduate, was the top hitter for the Ohio Northern University baseball team with a .346 average as the Polar Bears completed their season with a 15-22-1 record and they were 4-14 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Conkey appeared in 36 games, 33 as a starter. He had 37 hits in 107 at bats, with a double, triple and 24 RBI and tied for team-high three home runs.
He had seven stolen bases in 10 tries.
Nick Frankle, a Canfield High graduate, was a first-team selection on the men's academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference at-large team.
Majoring in accounting, Frankle was named Co-op swimmer of the year. He was a five-time OAC champion, wining the 100 and 200 yard breaststrokes, the 1650 freestyle and was a member of the 200 and 400 medley relays. He was all-conference in six events.
In his career, Frankle is a seven-time OAC and earned conference honors 11 times.
Frankle helped the ONU to its first OAC championship and a share of the conference regular season title.
Ohio Wesleyan
Michael Krieger, a sophomore pitcher, has been chosen to the first-team of the North Coast Athletic Conference baseball squad.
He went 6-1 with a 4.72 ERA. he led the Bishops in wins, ranked second in ERA and shared the team lead in saves (2). He ranked third in the NCAC in innings pitched (61) and is tied for third in strikeouts (59).
Krieger was a second-team All-NCAC pick in 2004.
Walsh
Fifty-six percent of the 370 Walsh University student-athletes received a 3.00 grade point average and 117 of them qualified for the dean's list (3.50 GPA or higher).
Two area athletes, freshman softball player Jessica Modic of Poland (3.94 GPA) and sophomore golfer Alan Datillo of West Branch (3.86) will be recognized for their accomplishment at the Walsh-Olivet Nazarene University football game on Sept. 17.
Gannon
Sophomore catcher Sean Lysowski of Boardman started 16 baseball games and had nine hits in 46 trips to the plate with two doubles and three RBIs for the Golden Knights (6-39).
La Roche
Sophomore catcher Kim Moore, pitcher Mallory Conger and Jenna Vrabel completed a successful softball season.
Moore of Howland started 32 of 34 games. She hit .302 with 24 RBIs and was named AMCC honorable mention.
Conger of Poland finished the campaign with a 7-3 record and a 1.99 ERA in 72 innings. She had 47 strikeouts, walked only six and teams only hit .215 against her and she was named AMCC honorable mention.
Vrable, a Ursuline High graduate, started 33 games for the Redhawks. She hit .302 with seven doubles and 15 RBIs.
