Calipari tells Cavs he's not interested
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis Tigers coach John Calipari talked with the Cleveland Cavaliers about their vacant head coaching job, but told them he wasn't interested, a school spokeswoman said Friday.
Athletic director R.C. Johnson had not been contacted by the Cavaliers, who went straight to Calipari. But school spokeswoman Jennifer Rodrigues said Calipari informed Johnson that he had been contacted by the Cavs.
Calipari said the Cavs asked to meet and that they talked, but did not discuss specifics.
"I'm not a candidate," he told The Commercial Appeal newspaper. "We've got a good thing going and I'm not looking to do anything [else]. I'm not going to be there. That's not happening."
Calipari said he was flattered that he had a chance to talk with team representatives. The Cavaliers have not commented on any candidates for their openings at coach, general manger or president.
The Tigers went 22-16 last season led by freshman Darius Washington, and Calipari completed his fifth season in Memphis since being fired from the New Jersey Nets.
He said he's willing to listen to other NBA teams.
"But the timing is all wrong," he said. "I'm very happy here."
Burress owes taxes
PITTSBURGH -- New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress failed to pay part of his taxes, according to a collection agency.
A district judge issued an arrest warrant for Burress on Thursday after he failed to appear at a delinquent tax claim hearing Wednesday.
Burress, who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers before signing with the Giants in March, could be arrested and fined $2,500 upon returning to Pennsylvania, said Coraopolis District Judge Mary Murray.
Keystone Municipal Collections attorney Tom Kratzenberg said Burress owes taxes for 1998 through 2002. The 1 percent wage tax was to be split between Moon Township and the Moon Area School District.
The amount of taxes was not specified.
The Steelers paid Burress almost $15.2 million during his five years with the team, though he did not live in Moon Township the entire time.
A woman who answered the phone at Burress' Pittsburgh home hung up without commenting and Burress' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, declined to comment.

Hornets suedby former employees
NEW ORLEANS -- Eight former New Orleans Hornets employees filed a lawsuit Friday alleging that the team had a practice of requiring people to work overtime without being paid for the extra hours, a violation of federal labor law.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in New Orleans, alleges that the Hornets violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by requiring employees to work more than 40 hours, including extra hours in the office, at public functions, during games and at home.
Smith and Carlosto be honored
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- When Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their gloved fists high above their heads on the medal podium in Mexico City, their silent protest echoed far beyond the 1968 Olympics.
And nearly 37 years later, the former San Jose State sprinters' memorable statement on black pride soon will get the larger-than-life recognition it deserves.
The school broke ground Friday on the setting for a 23-foot statue of Smith and Carlos at the moment of the galvanizing gesture that gave the American civil rights movement international attention and made them heroes and targets of hatred.
Smith and Carlos also are scheduled to receive honorary doctorates during San Jose State's commencement today.
