Baptist church turns 87
YOUNGSTOWN -- Pastor Kevin Crum Sr. announces that New Hope Baptist Church, 437 Albert St., will celebrate its 87th church anniversary at 3:30 p.m. June 12. Guest speaker will be Dr. Leon Thompson, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, Warren. Call (330) 743-0823 for information.
Memorial Day service
SALEM -- Salem First Friends Church, Jennings Avenue, will hold special services Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. in observance of Memorial Day.
All veterans, servicemen and women are invited to attend and be recognized for serving their country. Guests are welcome to wear their uniforms.

St. John's healing service
YOUNGSTOWN -- A service of healing, including Communion, will take place at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church.
"This is a service that helps people acknowledge the need for healing of mind, body and spirit, asking that God uphold us and fill us with grace that we may know the healing power of God's love," said the Rev. John Horner, St. John's rector.
A part of the service in which members of the congregation may take part if they choose is the "healing" or laying-on-of-hands (on the head) with a suitable prayer.
St. John's is located at 323 Wick Ave., next door to the main branch of the Youngstown /Mahoning County Library. The church is handicapped accessible and parking is free.

Volunteer help needed
GIRARD -- Volunteers are being sought to help with the annual St. Rose Church Festival July 25-27. Help is needed for festival ground setup, food preparation, gym game set-up, to officiate children's games, work concessions stands and help tear down decorations at the gym. Those interested may sign up at the church, 48 E. Main St.
Women's lunch, meeting
YOUNGSTOWN -- The United Methodist Women of Richard Brown Memorial United Methodist Church will meet Thursday at the church with Ruby Kuhns presiding. The executive committee will meet at 12:15 p.m. At 1 p.m., dessert and punch will be provided by Barbara Jones and Anita Mattern and their committee. Edith Thornton will ask the blessing. The business session and program "Membership, Nurture, and Outreach" by Jo Holt and Sue Charles will follow.
Mount Zion appreciation
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mount Zion Baptist Church, 827 Wilson Ave., will observe the 15th appreciation of its Pastor Jack W. and Sister Francis Pettis on June 5.
Pastor Emeritus Lonnie A. Simon of New Bethel Baptist Church will be the morning worship guest speaker at 11 a.m. Pastor Thomas J. Bolling, along with his choir and congregation of the Second Baptist Church of Farrell, Pa., will be the 4 p.m. afternoon guest speaker.
The public is welcome to attend either service.
Centennial celebration
YOUNGSTOWN -- St. Stephen of Hungary Church, 854 Wilson Ave., will celebrate its 100th anniversary Aug. 21.
A Mass of Thanksgiving will be held at 2 p.m. with former clergy, special guests, parishioners and friends. A reception dinner/dance will follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Social Hall, Via Mount Carmel Drive .Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served at 4, with a family-style dinner to follow at 4:45. The Bob Zolka Band will provide the music for dancing from 6 to 9.

Metro hosts evangelist
YOUNGSTOWN -- Metropolitan Baptist Church, 351 W. Rayen Ave., will host evangelist Arlene Williams for a song and worship service at 5 p.m. June 18.
In addition to the music, the service will include dance and a skit directed and written by Williams adapted from her book, "The Steps of a Desperate Lady."
The service is free to the public. A book signing will take place after the program.

Polka Mass
CAMPBELL -- St. Joseph the Provider Church, 633 Porter Ave., will hold a Polka Mass at noon June 5. The Mass will take place in the large outdoor tent in conjunction with the parish festival. Music will be by Del Rezek. All are welcome to attend.
Youth revival
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave., will present "The Abundant Living Youth Revival" at 6:30 each evening Wednesday through Friday. Jeff Stanford, Julian Walker and Judah Early will be ministers for the programs, which will feature preaching, teaching, music, dance, mime, praise and worship. Wedding music concert
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Wedding Music Showcase Concert will be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Columba Cathedral, corner of Wood and Elm Streets.
The program will offer a sampling of traditional and contemporary music for a religious wedding ceremony. Musicians for the event will be trumpeter Susan Sexton, vocalist William Ambert, and organists Ronald Goulish and Daniel Laginya.
The concert is free and open to the public. Security and parking will be provided.
